DOE ready to award e-trike to LGUs with tourism areas, eco-zones

MANILA – The Department of Energy (DOE) said it is ready to offer the electric-tricycle (e-trike) program to growing tourist areas and economic zones.

”The DOE remains open to all local government units (LGU) as E-trike off-takers of their respective localities to be used in tourism growth areas and mixed-use economic zones,” it said.

DOE undersecretary Donato Marcos said in January the LGU of Palawan was interested to be part of the e-trike program.

The department also said it was open to offer the program to schools and residential enclaves.

The DOE targets the initial roll out of the 3,000 e-trike units in the National Capital Region (NCR), Region IV-A and B by May 2016.

Bemac Electric Transportation Philippines Inc., a subsidiary of Japanese-firm Uzushio Electric Co., will supply the 3,000 units for $30 million. It won the bidding held in May last year.

The 100,000-unit project has a budget of $504 million, partly funded by the Asian Development Bank. (PNA)
